Description:
“The Lives They Left Behind” exhibit was created from the discovery of several hundred suitcases filled with the personal belongings of former patients in the attic of the Willard Psychiatric Center in NY. Their stories and personal belongings illustrate that they had jobs, raised families, were educated and traveled, pursued hobbies, fell in love, and faced misfortune. The exhibit gives a deeper insight into early-mid 20th century psychiatric institutions including the St. Joseph State Hospital, where the Glore Psychiatric Museum originated.
